What a beautiful day! Sunny skies and 70 degree weather make for beautiful rehearsin' weather. Spring has officially sprung. What better way to celebrate the warm weather than by attending a dance party... next weekend!

"Play Practice"

Ben Stuber and Marjorie Armstrong

Libby Ford, yellow chair, bananna...

Since we've put in 3 weeks of rehearsal for Scab I thought we might as well post some pictures of them on the old blog here. We're having fun, sweating a little bit... leaving the mats in the room with the a faint stench of foot. I'll post some more photos soon as soon as I remember to bring my camera to rehearsal, I'm putting it in my pocket... now!

Press

Yesterday we sent out the first press release for Scab. Wanna read it?

(Download the Scab Press Release)

Here are a few reasons that I think we deserve a ton of press for Scab:

(1) Sheila. She's awesome. Have you seen her website? I've been a Callaghan fan for a long time and I think her work is amazing. Not only is she a playwright, but she is also a graphic designer, sings lead in a rock band and also designs websites. We heart you.

(2) We're due. I think it's about time someone wrote a nice long article about the amazing group of people assembled as a part of Collision. It hasn't happened yet but why not? We have nice skin!

(3) Ladies! Our director and our design team are all women. Sheila, female. I don't think that happens very often. Um... girl power!

(4) Effort. It's hard to make press releases seem exciting but I'm trying! Really hard. This list is proof of that.

5 Reasons to go to the SPRING SMASH

So I live in New York. There are a great number of reasons that I like living in New York. There are also a number of reasons that I don't like living in New York. The foremost reason that I don't like living in New York currently is that on Saturday, March 31 I will be unable to attend the fundraiser for CTC's upcoming production of SCAB. In light of this I have outlined the top 5 reasons I wish I could go to the SPRING SMASH.

(1) THE SEASON Spring is in the air. Yes I'm fully aware that as I type this a hefty snow storm is brewing, but regardless of that spring is just around the corner and there are few things that I love more than Chicago in the spring. Seriously.

(2) THE SPACE Last time I was in Chicago I spent a few nights at FOUR MOON TAVERN and on one of these nights I had a nice chat with Brad Smith. He told me all about this awesome space that he lives in and works out of and I wish to heck that I could get down and party between those walls.

(3) THE FOLKS It's pretty simple. What I miss most about Chicago is the folks. And this is not just the CTC folks (although you all have a special place in my heart) but the whole gosh darn community. You guys rock.

(4) THE DEAL On top of the season, the space and the folks it's also only 20 bucks for all you can drink. Nice.

(5) THE CAUSE When it comes down to it the most important reason that I wish I could attend this SPRING SMASH is 'cause I believe in Collision. Good people working hard to make great theatre. Help the cause. Support the arts!

What are your top 5 reasons?

SCAB Artwork

So SCAB rehearsals are underway, which is very exciting. I've already booked a flight to Chicago for opening weekend. I can't wait to see how it all comes together. In light of rehearsals starting it is with great pleasure that I present the artwork for Collision Theatre Company's production of Sheila Callaghan's play SCAB to be directed by Libby Ford.

This is the front of the postcard:

I smell spring (sniff)

Dancing! Everybody loves it. That's why we're promoting it... at the SPRING! SMASH!

This is gonna go down like a vintage high school dance. There may even be streamers... tasteful streamers, or a balloon or two.

Did I mention that the SPRING! SMASH! is a fundraiser for a radical little theatre company named collision? it is!

This party is gonna be better than even the best best birthday party ever, even the birthday party where they let you loose in a video arcade with an unlimited amount of tokens, way... WAY better that that f-ing drag of a party. WAAAAAY better. (unless you really love skee-ball)

...it would make us really happy to see you there!

Rehearsals Begin Today!

Sunday, March 4... the SCAB journey officially begins. This is the first show I have been "in" with Collision since three piece suit and I am so excited. Sheila's play is so rad and I can't wait to see what Libby has up her sleeve in store for us. Most of all, I'm really looking forward to working with an amazingly talented group of people... our cast:

Anima - Marjorie Armstrong
Christa - Kate Cares
Artie/Angel/Davie - Josh Sumner
Mary Androgyne/Kellee - Ben Stuber
Mom/Angel/Jenna - Casey Cunningham
Alan - Yours truly!

Look out world...
